Duncan Plumbing LogoSpring is here, and that means it’s time for a little spring maintenance. Duncan Plumbing & Drain has 5 tips for making sure your plumbing is up to par before the hot temperatures arrive.

Check your hose bibs for damage

One common spring plumbing problem is flooding caused by damaged hose bibs. Any water trapped inside your hose bibs over the winter may have frozen and expanded, causing cracks or splits, so make sure to carefully check those hose bibs before turning them on for the first time. Otherwise, you could have a flood on your hands!

Turn on your stop-and-waste slowly

After a long winter indoors, you may be raring to get back to work in the yard or garden, but make sure to take it slow when you’re turning on plumbing systems that haven’t been used for months. You can cause serious damage to your sprinkler system, for example, if you crank on your stop-and-waste too quickly.

Check your swamp cooler

If you have a swamp cooler, make sure to carefully inspect it before turning it on for the first time. Start by removing the cover, swapping out the pads, and cleaning out any debris that has gotten into the unit. Next, make sure the water supply is securely hooked up and the float valve is functioning properly.

Have your air conditioner serviced

If you haven’t had your air conditioner serviced lately, your unit is likely operating at less than peak efficiency. Just like cars, air conditioners need regular tune-ups to run their best. Before you turn on your system this spring, have a professional out to check the system so you can stay cool as the weather heats up!

If there are any issues that may cause problems down the line, you’re better off catching them early.
