How much do you know about The Walker Center in downtown Salt Lake City?

1. When the building was completed in 1912, it was the tallest building between San Francisco and Chicago at 16 stories.

2. The sign at the top of the building uses colors to indicate what kind of weather is expected.

3. Flashing red means snow. Red is used to indicate rain, and blue stands for clear skies. Flashing blue indicates cloudy skies.

4. The Walker Center was initially a building that housed the Walker Bank, and the vault for the bank is still in the basement.

5. A renovation took place in 2007, which brought back the scaffolding tower which spells out “Walker” in huge letters.

6. The building has 110,000 square feet of office space across 16 floors.

7. There’s a spa and fitness center in The Walker Center, along with a conference center and concierge service during business hours.

8. A change in Salt Lake City’s sign ordinance brought the iconic Walker Center sign tower down in the early ’80s.

9. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.
