Fresh air, vivid colors and breathtaking views. Many Utahns enjoy being in the great outdoors, but may not know about if a certain trail is wheelchair-friendly, or too technical for someone with limited mobility.

Accessible Paved Trails in Northern Utah

1. Silver Lake


Silver Lake is located at the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon in the heart of the Wasatch Mountains. The trail is an out and back trail and is just over four miles long, but the boardwalk section takes about 30 minutes to get around the lake. In the winter, this trail is the Solitude Nordic Center and is ideal for cross country skiing and snowshoeing.

 

2. Bridal Veil Falls


Fifteen minutes from the heart of Provo lies Bridal Veil Falls. A paved trail takes you to the bottom of the falls and can be taken up the canyon in either direction. There is a dirt trail that continues to the top of the falls, but plan to get your feet wet.

 

3. Ogden River Parkway

Explore nature along Ogden’s beautiful parkway. Starting near the mouth of Ogden Canyon, the Ogden River Parkway weaves through gardens, pools and fields for over 28 miles. This interconnected trail series is paved and accessible from numerous locations throughout Ogden.

 

4. Jordan River Parkway


The Jordan River Parkway is a set of trails that runs all the way from Utah Lake to the Great Salt Lake. The trails in Salt Lake County are paved and accessible, and offer some spectacular views.

5. Donut Falls


This is a popular hike near Salt Lake, and for good reason. Donut Falls is a 3.5 mile roundtrip hike leads to one of the most unique and beautiful waterfalls in the region. This hike is popular year-round for outdoor enthusiasts, both novice and experienced. The trailhead is found about 9 miles up Big Cottonwood Canyon.

 

6. Pipeline Trail

The Pipeline Trail follows most of the length of Millcreek Canyon, just outside Salt Lake City. Over six miles of well-maintained trail gives hikers amazing views of the canyon and the city. This trail can be hiked as a round trip path or it leads to other popular hikes in Millcreek Canyon.

 

7. Grandeur Peak

A more intermediate hike for the adventurous souls, the Grandeur Peak hike is 5.5 miles roundtrip and provides amazing views of the city and mountains. The path is well-maintained and isn’t too technical or steep. The hike begins at the Church Fork Trailhead up Millcreek Canyon.

 

8. Stewart Falls

A four-mile trail just outside Sundance leads you to Stewart Falls. This moderate trail passes through Aspen groves and leads to an impressive waterfall in the heart of the forest. The trees provide refreshing shade in the heat of the summer and impressive views in the autumn.
