Malls in Salt Lake: The definitive guide to shopping along the Wasatch Front
It’s time to go shopping. And while, thanks to Amazon and the like, you could get the job done all from the convenience of your home, sometimes nothing can replace checking out the goods in person.
Enter: the good ol’ fashion shopping mall. The Salt Lake area is chock full of them, and they’ll provide a one-stop shop for just about everyone on your list. Plus, there’s just something about the bustling crowds and decked-out shop windows that gets us in the shopping mood.
Read on for the best of Salt Lake City’s malls, shopping centers and outlets:
1. City Creek Center
Since its grand opening in March 2012, City Creek has completely taken over as the ultimate mall experience in the state of Utah. This downtown redevelopment project has one numerous awards and is quickly becoming known as one of the best malls in the country. Hit up City Creek for high-end retailers like Tiffany’s and Michael Kors, or stick with the standby spots like H&M and Forever 21.
2. The Gateway
Though The Gateway has lost many of its retailers to City Creek, we don’t think it should be forgotten just yet. The Gateway still has the only major movie theater in the downtown area, as well as Clark Planetarium, Discovery Gateway kids museum, The Depot concert venue and stores City Creek doesn’t have, like Urban Outfitters, Barnes and Noble and Victoria’s Secret.
3. Trolley Square
This shopping center isn’t technically a mall, but it offers the same convenience and experience, so we think it deserves a spot on the list. Trolley Square has been growing and improving its retail selection in the past few years, offering the biggest Whole Foods in the state, as well as stores like Lululemon, American Apparel and Pottery Barn.
4. Fashion Place Mall
Like Trolley Square, Fashion Place has also been expanding and adding some amazing stores to revitalize the Murray shopping scene. Hit up Fashion Place for new stores like Madewell, The Container Store, LEGO Store and Shabby Apple.
5. Tanger Outlets
Tanger Outlets are a great place to score deals on apparel and gear from name brands like Nike, Columbia Sportswear, J.Crew, Brooks Brothers and more.
6. Valley Fair Mall
If you’re on the west side, head to Valley Fair Mall for a few spots you won’t find at the other malls in the area, including JC Penny, Famous Footwear, Ross Dress For Less and Ulta Beauty.
7. South Towne Center
South Towne is home to R.E.I., Dillard’s and a huge Forever 21. It also has the perk of being in close proximity to a ton of other shopping areas with big stores like Target, Nordstrom Rack, and Buy Buy Baby.
