Guess what day Christmas comes on this year. That’s right! The 25th. Just like last year, and just like the year to come. There’s a definite pattern there and yet so many of us wait until the very last minute to start shopping for the perfect gift for mom. In a panicked haze of fighting crowds and running from store to store, we might be able to find something adequate, but we definitely won’t be able to find a good deal.
Finding the best, inexpensive gifts this holiday season means starting as early as possible and taking a slightly more measured approach. Shop early, shop often, but stick rigidly within your budget. This will give a little more incentive to go out and find those great deals that so many places are offering before the shopping frenzy comes to an end.
Deciding what to buy, of course, will still be a challenge. However, some of these ideas may get you on the right path and help you find something great for her this year.
1. eBook reader

Over the years these great devices have dropped significantly in price, while the technology just keeps getting better. If your mom is an avid reader, this is a great way to help her take a veritable library of books with her everywhere she goes.
2. eBook reader accessories

What if she already has a reader? There are some great covers, screen protectors, and other accessories that will enhance the experience.
3. Homemade gifts

If, after all these years, your mother still refuses to be helpful and provide suggestions, try making something yourself. It won’t take many experiences like this to encourage her to feel better about specifying a few things that would be nice.
4. Spa packages

These are consistently a popular gift, and if you are paying attention to the local establishments, many of them will offer special promotions where you can get a day at the spa for up to half off.
5. Fashion Accessories

New earrings, a simple bracelet, or a fancy watch are all simple but effective gifts, and they don’t have to cost very much. They go with almost anything, and you can often personalize some of them with a simple message.
6. Gift cards

This may seem like you are giving up, but, in truth, many surveys suggest that a lot of women prefer to get their gift in a “potential” form. For some, the shopping experience is part of the fun, and the more gift cards they have, the more they can buy the accessories, eBooks, and clothes they really want.
7. Special meals

This technically falls into the gift card arena, but it has a little more significance. For many moms, the opportunity to have a relaxing meal at a nice place is not about avoiding cooking at home, but building memories as a family.
These are just a few suggestions to get you started this holiday season. Make a list of the things you think your mother might enjoy before you go out and start fighting the crowds, and you will have much better results by the time the 25th rolls around.
