Your best friend has one, your grandma has one, and even your favorite lovable pet has one.
If you haven’t already noticed, blogging is kind of a big deal.
However, many people are failing at it–relying solely upon ideas that are only cool to a 3rd grader (i.e. Pokemon blogs). So, in this world ridden with bad ideas and the lack of creativity, how can you blog like you mean it?
1. Give a damn
It’s the golden rule of being an online success: blog like you give a damn.
It might sound like a no brainer, but one of the easiest ways to blog like you give a damn is to blog about something that you’re passionate about. If you’re blogging about food but hate to eat, your blog isn’t going to be a success.
Remember: readers can spot disdain from a glared screen away.
Another way to give a damn? Try something new and add a twist to your content. For example, if you run a cooking blog, try a new recipe or a new method of baking. Even if you fail at it, explain what went wrong and be honest.
Trust me, the passion behind the blog will seep through to your readers and help you create a following.
2. Avoid dry spells
What do deodorant and bad content have in common? They’re both good at keeping things dry.
If you want to blog like you mean it, don’t be dry. Leave filler information and generalizations at the door. For example, if you’re blogging about mountain biking, don’t blog about the components that make up a bike (nobody wants to read that) but rather, blog about an experience or something that’s detailed and well researched.
A good rule of thumb when avoiding dry content? Ask yourself, “Would anybody other than me Google this?” If the answer is yes, you’re on the right track.
3. Take ten
If your blog is lacking excitement and enthusiasm, it’s only going to register over to your readers. Reduce the likelihood of your readers drooling all over their keyboard because they fell asleep while reading your blog.
If you’re not sure what to blog about or are having an off week, don’t be afraid to take a break. Granted, don’t take a month long hiatus without mentioning it to your readers (that’s a BIG no no). Just take a few days to refresh and brainstorm different topics or angles that you want to take.
If you’re still feeling a little off after you “take ten”, try creating a content schedule. Simply sit down, brainstorm content ideas, write them down, and schedule them out. That way things don’t seem so overwhelming and your blog can start to feel a bit more manageable.
Anyone and everyone can start a blog. However, it takes a true blogger to blog like they mean it. If you’re trying to revamp your blog, avoid dry spells, take ten, and try to give a damn.
